Faith + Mental Health + Motherhood
Weary mama, this is for you… He said, come to m Weary mama, this is for you…
He said, come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.
Modern American Motherhood is a heavy yoke. It has us weary and worn out. We feel like we HAVE to do so many things, otherwise we are failing.
Our homes have to be spotless and adorably decorated. Our kids have to be in all kinds of after school activities and they have to be on time and we’ll dressed for all of it. Our bodies need to bounce back immediately after birth. Our hair can never turn gray and our skin can never wrinkle. Our dinners need to be delicious, organic, culinary masterpieces. Our kids need to be well-behaved, A+ students, who are eager to serve at church and help around the house. Oh, and we should be able to do it all by ourselves, without asking for help, and look cute while doing it.
The list just gets longer and longer and longer, and none of those things are commanded by Christ.
He commands us to remain in Him. To love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. And he invites us to throw off our heavy yoke because His yoke is easy and light. Can you imagine that? Easy, light motherhood?
That is what He has for us. Our world tells us to work harder, to run after a man made standard of maternal perfection that is forever changing and out of our grasp. Christ simply says, “remain in me.” If we remain in Him, stay yoked to Christ, He takes the brunt of the burden. He loves our kids more than we do and is caring for them in more ways that we ever could. He bears most of the burden of our parenting. We just walk along with Him, to take the weight off our shoulders.
So throw off that heavy yoke, sweet friend. Rest assured in Jesus.

A word of hope for the weary mom… Maybe you hav A word of hope for the weary mom…
Maybe you haven’t slept through the night for months. Maybe you haven’t been alone for more than 5 minutes in who knows how long. Maybe your kids’ endless questions have exhausted your very last brain cell.
Know this. You are not alone. God sees you, and He is with you. And that is not just a Christian cliche.
He knows how bone tired you are. He is with you in the middle of the night rocking your sick child. He is with you when you take a deep breath in the pantry hiding from the kids for just 5 minutes. He is with you as you answer each every one of your kids’ numerous questions. He knows how exhausting it all is.
He sees you, and He is WITH you. He’s not just watching from afar. He is standing there right next to you, holding your hand, feeling the depths of your weariness WITH you. And He is also right there giving you supernatural strength you didn’t know you hand to get through each day.
You may feel weak and completely spent, but the fact that you are still doing this thing called motherhood means He is with you, pulling you through, propelling you forward.
Take a deep breath and imagine Him right there, helping you when you need it most. You may be tired, but you are not alone.

How do you respond when you are overwhelmed? Do y How do you respond when you are overwhelmed?
Do you tend to get away, numb yourself with food, TV, social media, alcohol, or another escape?
Do you do more, pull it together, push through, stay up late, wake up early, work harder?
What if we used our feelings of overwhelm as an alarm clock to remind us of our need for God? What if we turned to him instead of turning to our vices or to ourselves?
We might not feel so overwhelmed all the time. We might just find freedom from overwhelm for good.

Mama, I’m giving you permission to be who God cr Mama, I’m giving you permission to be who God created you to be.
Our kids don’t need us to be more stylish, more organized, more artistic, more athletic, more of anything other than who we are.
My kids don’t get an athletic, crafty, or particularly tidy mom. Instead, they get a mom who loves Jesus, musical theater, used bookstores, and farmers markets. My kids don’t get a mom who grew up in a Christian home, but they do get a mom who loves them fiercely and loves God even more, regardless of my upbringing.
All the things you feel bad about being bad at, none of it matters. I’m good at enough things. And so are you. Stop beating yourself up for not being good at things God doesn’t even care about. He made you to be you.
You are good at enough things.
